I haven’t sewn anything for ages and lately I’ve been a bit obsessed with the idea of getting back to the sewing machine. I picked up some fabric by Prints Charming (4th one from the top) at Spotlight a little while ago thinking it would be perfect for Matilda – she was into purple and doesn’t have much purple in her wardrobe. Plus I like the purple paired with reds and oranges rather than pink.
Anywhooo the fabric has been sitting there for awhile and last week I realised it would go perfectly with a cute striped boat neck t-shirt in Polly’s wardrobe that she doesn’t have too much to wear with. So I decided to make her a skirt.
I hunted around for awhile trying to decide on a pattern and then remembered that years ago I bought the Oliver + S sailboat skirt pattern and I’ve never used it. Actually I bought it when Matilda was about 1, and I bought some nice chambray fabric for the skirt and a nice blue/white stripe for the top too – all of which remains untouched, but we don’t need to discuss that now.
So Polly got a sailboat skirt and I love it. I also love the pattern and am now working out if I’ll make one of the other girls another skirt, or try the top or pants now, hmm.
I was a bit worried that Polly wouldn’t be into it, being that it is not yellow. But she was happy, particularly when Matilda said she liked it. I made the size 3T, and it fits really nicely. Polly generally wears a 3 in Australian sizes too.
