Last week, during school holidays we had another kid’s craft day. We had one last year in the holidays and the kid’s loved it so they were very excited when I asked if they wanted to have another one. The rainy weather threatened us for a little, but it turned out alright in the end.
A while ago I saw these cute puppet theatres on Summer Pickles blog and filed them away for a craft day idea. They’re an ideal kiddy craft really – not too difficult, appeal to boys and girls, and no special equipment – they’re made out of box and can be decorated with whatever you have lying around.
First we cut off the extra sides and then used some duct tape to keep up the bottom half of the puppet show. Next we got busy decorating.
Then we tied up the top ‘sign’ of the box, so it would stay up. And finally, added a curtain.
Once the theatres were all ready to go we printed out some finger puppets. There are heaps available on the interwebs, I’ve put links to the few we used on my pinterest kids board. After a couple of rehearsals I was treated to a puppet show version of Red Riding Hood by Polly and the “Story of the Princess and the Dragon”, by Matilda. The first of many many puppet shows G and I
endured enjoyed over the next few days.
I wasn’t quite as organised as last year’s craft day, so it was a little more chaotic. But at the end of the day everyone walked away with their very own puppet theatre, and I believe a smile on their face!
